dots obsession

September 17th, 2006

Sure, I’m not the only one fascinated by dots: Yayoi Kusama‘s Installation “Dots Obsession” (until 3rd of october at Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin) is really cool. I really really like it.
She received the Praemium Imperiale this year and seems to have some sort of pathologic hallucination-thing going on since she was young.

Yayoi Kusama said about her painting titled “Flower” in 1954:

“One day I was looking at the red flower patterns of the tablecloth on a table, and when I looked up I saw the same pattern covering the ceiling, the windows and the walls, and finally all over the room, my body and the universe. …”

Walking through her installation is quite spacy – a bit like Alice in Wonderland: big balloons with white spots, the walls and floor the same. Huge mirrors make you feel the room is endless.. | | flickr-pix | store.lammfromm
